Chapter 088 Zhang Zhenren, the Melee Mage
Chapter 088 Zhang Zhenren, the Melee Mage
Li Hanqiang chatted with Fanfeng Knight and Ignition Sword Saint for a while and learned that the two of them were also quite wealthy. Before the Endless World opened, they had hired a few people to set up a small studio, calling themselves the "Watching the Show Guild". They originally wanted to make a big splash in the Endless World, but unfortunately, as soon as the game was released, they were attacked by the Emperor Guild, and all their underlings were wiped out.
These two seem to have a very positive attitude and are having a lot of fun.
A moment later, Li Hanqiang suddenly received a system notification: "Melee mage Zhang Zhenren has requested to be teleported into your Chaos City. Do you agree?"
"They're here!" Li Hanqiang smiled slightly. "My apprentice is here!"
"Your apprentice's here?" the Fan Knight chuckled. "You have an apprentice?"
"Haha, my apprentice is amazing! He made an uncanny prediction about Master Zhang, just a casual player..." Li Hanqiang said confidently. "Come on, let me introduce you to him!"
Soon, Fan Knight and Ignition Sword Saint met the fat old man Zhen Deshuai, and both of them were stunned.
An old man!
Level 2 only!
And this name... melee mage...
This seems completely unreliable!
Li Hanqiang was quite satisfied and said to Zhang Deshuai, "Not bad, not bad. You chose the mage class, and the name was chosen according to my suggestion. Good, good, good. I will wholeheartedly pass on all my martial arts skills to you!"
"Then I'll follow my little master from now on!" Zhang Deshuai grinned. He was still getting used to the game controls and his mind was a little foggy. He thought to himself that it was lucky that his landlord was there to play with him.
With a smile on his face, Li Hanqiang summoned Zhang Deshuai, a Taoist priest, with no other intention than to ask him to help him collect Ganoderma lucidum.
As for making him choose the mage class, and even having the words "melee mage" in his nickname, that was just Li Hanqiang's perverse sense of humor.
There are ten regular adventurer classes in Endless World: Knight, Swordsman, Shield Guardian, Warrior, Assassin, Thief, Mage, Archer, Priest, and Warlock!
In addition, there are advanced professions, hidden professions, legendary professions, etc., which require players to have good luck to trigger the job change.
Of course, some people are lucky from the start, opening a treasure chest in the wild, accepting a hidden quest, or something similar, thus obtaining an extraordinary profession, such as Dark Night Redemption.
However, regardless of the profession, there are only three core skills. You start with one, unlock the second at level 10, and the third at level 20. In addition, you have three free skill slots, which you can learn three free skills. The first free skill slot is unlocked at level 10, the second at level 20, and the third at level 30.
Generally, adventurer players only have these six skills, so reaching level 30 is considered graduation.
Level 31 is a major hurdle, requiring a massive amount of experience points to reach. Of course, there are many game mechanics, and reaching level 30 is the basic requirement for participation; how the game progresses beyond that is anyone's guess.
Even those mysterious beta testers only participated in the game test for a month and didn't even get to experience the main storyline.
The ten professions in the Endless World are quite distinctive. The knight's main skills are riding, charging, and heavy strike. Because they can stack attack and defense attributes with their mounts, they can firmly hold the top tank position with their absolute health and defense attributes.
The Shield Guard is also very durable, but it doesn't rely on attack and defense stats, but rather on skills. This class is more skill-based. The first skill is a block that reduces damage, the second skill is a taunt that attracts aggro, and the third skill is a super armor that prevents the user from being controlled. A skilled Shield Guard is much more stable than a Knight.
Swordsmen and warriors are both semi-tank classes. The former has a combo attack, an evasion skill, and a swift attack skill, making them more agile and prone to burst damage. The latter has a heavy strike skill, a battle cry skill, and weapon mastery skill, making them a more well-rounded class that can deal damage, tank, and provide support.
The six classes—assassin, thief, mage, archer, priest, and warlock—are quite traditional.
The mage is positioned as a ranged DPS, with the first skill being a single-target fireball, the second skill being a single-target ice spike, and the third skill being an area-of-effect blizzard. They are relatively fragile.
If given the chance, Li Hanqiang plans to train Zhang Deshuai (Zhang Zhenren) into a melee mage, continuing his unconventional playstyle, just for fun.
Soon, Li Hanqiang found the provincial governor Xiang Mang and issued the tasks of "mining in the Xuan Tie Mine" and "collecting Lingzhi in the Lingzhi Forest". There were no rewards for the tasks, only the contribution points of Chaos City as determined by the system.
"A new faction mission has appeared on the mission board! Go and complete it! Chaos City contribution points are equivalent to faction military merits. The more you accumulate, the more benefits you'll receive!" Li Hanqiang shouted, attracting Fan Knight, Ignition Sword Saint, and Zhang Deshuai to the side of the mission board.
However, the two, Fanfeng and Dianhuo, showed little interest in the new mission. In their minds, it was much easier to farm Chaos City contribution points and complete pay-to-win missions than to bother mining and gathering herbs.
"Forget it, let's take the boss to the Burning Ruins instead, earn some gold, and then exchange it for a cave!" The Fan Knight bowed to Li Hanqiang, "Farewell!"
After saying that, he teleported away.
The Ignition Sword Saint grinned at Li Hanqiang and said, "I'm leaving too. That fan guy isn't holding up well, so I'll have to take care of the boss! I'll come back to spend money on in-game purchases after I've earned some gold!"
"Then goodbye!" Li Hanqiang thought to himself that these two had become his employees. When they ran out of money, they went out to work, and when they made money, they came back to spend it. He suddenly felt like he had become an exploiter, but why didn't his conscience hurt at all?
Zhang Deshuai naturally wouldn't leave. He obeyed Li Hanqiang's every word and, under Li Hanqiang's arrangement, he accepted the gathering task. Afterward, he was taken into the Demon Mountain Cave by Li Hanqiang.
Upon entering the demon mountain cave, Zhang Deshuai couldn't help but exclaim in amazement, scanning the surroundings with his gaze, "What a magnificent mountain! The feng shui here is superb; it's a place where dragons and tigers converge!"
"Master, you're even looking at feng shui in games! I'm impressed!" Li Hanqiang sighed helplessly, but he also summoned a green-haired demon and instructed him to lead Zhang Deshuai to the Lingzhi Forest in the back mountain.
With Zhang Deshuai gone, Li Hanqiang had some free time again. Since it was still early before the siege, he wasn't in a hurry at all. He closed the city gates and went fishing at Bibo Pond.
Time passed, and three hours later, Li Hanqiang finally had a stroke of luck. He caught another mount, but instead of a Blackthorn Baby Turtle, he caught a Giant Iron Claw Shrimp.

Description: The Ironclaw Shrimp is a melee attack monster, skilled in physical defense, with a slow movement speed, a level cap of 30, and no skills. It is currently a tamed mount and cannot fight independently.

This giant iron-clawed shrimp is quite different from the black-spined turtle juvenile; it's an adult, nearly four meters long, slightly plump, with a very thick shell that's a deep red, like it's been braised. Its two large claws are as big as a square table, which is quite frightening.
Li Hanqiang placed it on the shore; it looked like a small tank.
However, this giant iron-clawed shrimp's movement speed is quite average, swaying with every step, and its maximum speed is only five meters per second.
"It's amazing that such a big fish can be caught and put into a fish basket!" Li Hanqiang smiled.
He used to sell black-spined baby turtles, but now he can no longer sell mounts and keeps them for his own use.
What's more, this Iron Claw Shrimp is also a siege beast, dealing four times the damage when attacking buildings, which is equivalent to having five times the attack power when attacking buildings!
However, as a tamed mount, the Iron Claw Shrimp is different from slimes and Balrogs; it cannot fight on its own. Without a rider, it is simply a means of transportation, much like a bicycle.
Xiang Mang possesses superb horsemanship skills. If he were to use it as a mount, he could control the battle and be incredibly powerful at demolishing defensive towers.
Li Hanqiang immediately rode the Iron Claw Giant Shrimp to find Xiang Mang, wanting to see the effect of Xiang Mang riding the Iron Claw Giant Shrimp.
However, Xiang Mang completely ignored the giant iron-clawed shrimp and refused to ride it.
This "unwillingness" cannot be forced; it is actually a system setting. When Xiang Mang chooses a mount, it's the same as choosing a weapon—it can only be chosen by himself.
"This is a siege beast!" Li Hanqiang felt a pang of regret. After a moment's thought, he added the Iron Claw Giant Shrimp to the list of alternative reward items for the 1001st quest, intending to use it as an incentive for the Fan Knight.
A moment later, good news came from the Demon Mountain Cave. Little Drill Wind came to report that Zhang Deshuai had actually collected the Lingzhi tree seedlings!
"Awesome! Let me use the Three-Headed Tiger Flame Demon!"
Li Hanqiang mounted the tiger's back and sped along at lightning speed, soon arriving at the side of the Lingzhi Forest, only to find Zhang Deshuai squatting on a high ground in the distance, lost in thought.
"Master Zhang, where is the Ganoderma lucidum sapling!" Li Hanqiang shouted.
Zhang Deshuai snapped out of his daze, smiled, and exclaimed to Li Hanqiang, "Little Master, I've discovered a truly auspicious burial site, a rare find indeed! It's this very high ground right here. I wish I could be buried here after I die!"
"This is a game world!" Li Hanqiang thought this Master Zhang might have lost his mind, but he said, "Tomorrow I'll have my little demons dig a cave for you here, you can live here. First, tell me where the Ganoderma lucidum seedling is?"
No sooner had he finished speaking than two green-haired demons emerged from the Ganoderma lucidum forest, each carrying a Ganoderma lucidum sapling nearly a meter tall.
