Chapter 80 Rescuing Villagers and Evacuation
Chapter 80 Rescuing Villagers and Evacuation
Thanks to Rogge's experience, the militiamen of Gonde Village showed no signs of fatigue and were all in high spirits.
Although their shield wall was not as skilled as that of Duanpo Village, it still firmly withstood the frenzied attack of more than twenty pirates.
The two teams from Duanpo Village, one on the left and one on the right, were native villagers who knew every alley and every house in the village like the back of their hand.
Even in the darkness, they were able to quickly weave through the alleys on both sides, constantly attacking the pirates from the flanks, and gradually surrounding the more than thirty pirates on the main road of the village.
Shouts of battle rose and fell, and blood stained the ground beneath their feet.
Ultimately, Rogge's troops, equipped with the same gear as the pirates, gradually suppressed them.
Pirates continued to fall in pools of blood.
The squad that Aino was in, from Gonde Village, was not yet familiar with the shield wall formation, so their coordination was bound to have flaws.
A pirate seized an opening, cleaved a militiaman's shield in two with a single axe strike, and then plunged the axe into his chest.
Two more village militiamen from Gangde were cut down by the pirates...
Rogge surrounded them on three sides, leaving one side open.
After more than a dozen pirates died, the remaining dozen or so pirates completely lost their morale.
As they watched the crowd closing in and heard their companions' dying screams, they finally realized that they were completely unable to break through the enemy's defenses!
One of the pirates finally gave in and turned to run toward the breach. The remaining pirates followed suit, and the pirate defenses collapsed like a dam.
"Chase!"
The two squads from Duanpo Village were chasing after them.
Many pirates, unfamiliar with the terrain and in the darkness of night, panicked and ran into dead ends, where they were eventually caught up and killed by the Shield Wall team.
In a short time, more than a dozen pirate corpses were left in the village alleys, with only a few pirates managing to escape the village.
……
After defeating the pirates, Aino's squad from Gonde Village quickly lit torches, entered the village, and dispersed to search for captured villagers.
The prisoners also heard the commotion outside. Some trembled and hid in the corner, afraid to make a sound, while others were bolder and peeked through the crack in the door, shouting for help.
Before long, Aino and his companions found several courtyards where prisoners were being held.
The team members broke down the courtyard gate and rescued the imprisoned villagers.
Most of these villagers were emaciated and dressed in rags, many of them bearing injuries, clearly having suffered greatly at the hands of the pirates.
While directing her team to comfort the prisoners, Aino anxiously searched for her brother.
Just then, a member of the Gondo Village team, carrying a torch, ran over and shouted loudly to Aino:
"Captain Aino, Chief Rogge has found Osenyar! Come with me!"
Upon hearing this, Aino's heart skipped a beat, and he immediately followed.
Her steps were quick and hurried, her heart pounding wildly in her chest.
Aino followed them to the outside of a courtyard wall, where several members of the Broken Amber Village team were guarding the gate.
As she approached the yard, she heard her younger sister Eileen's heartbreaking cries.
The cries were filled with sorrow, like a sharp knife piercing Aino's heart.
Aino's heart sank; a bad premonition lingered in her mind, making her feel as heavy as if she were filled with lead.
Her steps involuntarily slowed down, and every step felt incredibly difficult.
Stepping into the courtyard and seeing the situation clearly, I felt as if I had been struck by lightning.
Two men in the courtyard held torches, their hands burning in the dim light.
Her brother, Olsen, was shirtless, his hands pierced by thick iron nails and nailed to an old door panel.
Blood flowed down his arm, pooling into a dark red stain on the door.
His face was covered in blood, and his hair was stuck to his face in a mess. It was unclear whether he was dead or alive.
Meanwhile, Rogge was crouching nearby, hacking at the chains with a sharp axe.
Eileen was kneeling on the ground, her shoulders trembling, and she was crying loudly.
"Brother..." Nuo's voice was hoarse and barely audible. She staggered over to him, but dared not touch him.
When Roger saw Aino enter, he looked up at her and announced in a heavy tone:
"The person isn't dead, they're still breathing, but..."
Upon hearing this, Ai Nuo breathed a sigh of relief, and with trembling hands, she reached out and gently brushed the messy hair from her brother's face.
When she saw Olsen's face clearly, her heart broke.
Not only were Olsen's hands nailed to the door, but his right eye socket was also empty, clearly indicating that someone had cruelly gouged out his eye!
His face was covered in scars, his lips were chapped and peeling, and he was so weak that he was barely clinging to life.
Aino finally couldn't hold back her tears and they streamed down her face. She bit her lip hard to stop herself from crying out loud, but her shoulders trembled uncontrollably.
She never imagined that her once spirited and unrestrained brother would turn out like this.
……
While comforting the two weeping girls, Roger suddenly heard Ragnar shouting at the top of his lungs outside the courtyard:
"Brother Rogge! The pirate army is here! So many of them!"
Upon hearing Ragnar's shout, Rogge was terrified.
Unable to detect any figures with his Eye of Insight, Rogge ran out of the courtyard and glanced into the distance. He saw countless pirates carrying torches rushing toward him from the main road to the north!
During the previous attack, Rogge had placed Ragnar outside. With Ragnar at the village entrance, he was able to spot the main force of the pirates in advance!
Fortunately, Ragnar stayed outside. If they had been a minute or two later, and the pirates had surrounded them, they would all have died here!
The situation is urgent, there's no time to waste!
"Everyone retreat immediately! Forget about the spoils!"
"Take all the villagers and retreat towards the back of the village in the mountains! Hurry!"
As Roger gave the orders, he called over three burly men at the door to help him lift the door panel.
There wasn't enough time to untie Olsen; forcibly pulling out the thick iron nails would only cause secondary damage.
With the combined strength of the four people, they suddenly lifted the door panel that was binding Olsen.
As they stepped out of the courtyard and onto the village's dirt road, the pirates drew ever closer.
They were brandishing weapons and running wildly this way.
With Ragnar's warning, all the team members heard the alarm and poured out from the streets and alleys.
There were at least a hundred pirates, and they couldn't possibly resist them.
With their current strength, a direct confrontation would be tantamount to throwing an egg against a rock.
The troops rescued twenty or thirty captured villagers from the village.
These villagers include both men and women, and they are all young people from nearby villages.
They had been imprisoned by the pirates for many days. These people had not eaten for many days and were covered in wounds. They could barely stand and had no strength left to run away.
God and Virgil immediately each carried one person on their backs, and the other team members followed suit, carrying the weak prisoners and running smoothly towards the end of the village.
For a time, the retreat appeared somewhat chaotic, but it was also extremely fast.
Roger, along with three other men, carried the Orson and, thanks to the power granted by the experience candy, their running speed was extremely fast.
As the group quickly retreated and ran into the dense forest at the end of the village, Stan's pirate crew also arrived at the open space at the end of the village.
Stan watched the figures darting into the woods, then looked at the scattered pirate corpses and bloodstains on the ground, and his anger reached its peak.
"Damn scum! I'll tear you all to pieces!"
Stan roared, his eyes bloodshot, his entire body radiating an overwhelming aura of ferocity, his reason completely consumed by the flames of rage.
"Everyone, listen up! Continue the pursuit! Don't let a single one escape!"
Dozens of pirates roared and, brandishing torches and weapons, followed Stan into the forest!
In the dense forest, the branches swayed, and a thrilling chase was about to begin.
